With the new year comes promising entertainment in the form of new movies; fortunately, 2015 will be a year full of blockbusters. With students staying busy with school, work, and other activities, movies provide entertainment to look forward to throughout the year.

An upcoming movie for the entire family is Pan, a rewrite of the classic tale Peter Pan. The story follows a pan MOyoung orphan boy when he runs away from home, ending up in a place called Neverland. This movie is worth viewing, as it is a classic story retold. Starring Rooney Mara (Her) as Tiger Lily, Hugh Jackman (The Wolverine) as Black Beard, and newcomer Levi Miller as Peter Pan, the adventure/comedy/family film is rated PG and is expected to be released July 24.

For those who like to see romance mixed in with action, Paper Towns, which is not yet rated, is expected to be released on June 5. Written by John Green (author of The Fault in Our Stars), the story follows a teenage boy named Quentin (Nat Wolff, The Fault in Our Stars) and his four friends as they go on an adventurous road trip to find Margo (Cara Delevingne), the girl next door; the group will stop at nothing until she is found.  John Green created a large fan base with The Fault in Our Stars, so audiences are eagerly anticipating seeing another of his books translated to the big screen.  “John Green is such a great writer, so this movie has got to be as great as The Fault in Our Stars,’’ says Eily Blackmon, sophomore.

If acapella singing in a nice teen movie is of interest, Pitch Perfect 2 follows the Barden Bellas once again, but this time they have their eyes on a much bigger prize. The all-female acapella group is competing against teams from all around the world, and they must sing their way to the top once again. Kayli Rice, sophomore, says, “The movie’s song choices for covers are perfect.’’ This comedy, starring Anna Kendrick (Into the Woods) as Beca, Rebel Wilson (Struck by Lightning) as Fat Amy, and Brittany Snow (Prom Night) as Chloe, is rated PG-13 and is expected to be released on May 15.

If action is a preference, then Maze Runner 2: The Scorch Trials is a perfect fit. It picks up right where the first movie left off when the Gladers escaped the maze. In this sequel, they are now faced with new challenges as Thomas must lead the escapees through the Scorch trials. This action-packed film is expected to be released on September 8th.  It stars Dylan O’Brien (MTV show TeenWolf) as Thomas, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Nannie McPhee) as Newt, and Kaya Scodelario (UK TV series SKINS) as Teresa.  Abbey Barreinsurgent MOtt, sophomore, says, ‘’Dylan is a great actor, so that’s something that is a must see.’’

Insurgent, based on Victoria Roth’s book of the same name, will add to the sequel, teen, and action pattern this March 20th.  The story follows Beatrice once again as she tries to fight her inner thoughts, and she also has to fight the powerful government that wants to destroy her home. This sci-fi film is rated PG and stars Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars) as Beatrice, Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars) as Caleb, and Theo James as Four.poltergist MO

A nice horror film is always good, so go see a film being released called Poltergeist.  Go into the famous home of the classic movie of the 80s and soon discover why that home was abandoned in the first place. The all-American family moves into a house, and they soon figure out that there is something off with their new home. An evil entity wants them out, and they will try everything to fix the mess. Being released on July 24th, Poltergeist stars Sam Rockwell as Eric Bowen, Jared Harris (Pompeii) as Carrigan Burke, Rosemarie DeWitt (The Watch) as Amy Bowen, and Saxon Sharbino as Kendra Bowen.

Be on the lookout all year for these major blockbusters! These highly-anticipated new movies are definitely worth seeing!
