Woodstock Explores Europe!

Staff Writer: Santana Lozano

Over spring break, many students from Woodstock High School will go on a nine-day trip to Europe! During this once-in-a-lifetime trip, they will visit many places including Berlin and Dresden, Germany; Prague and Olomouc, Czech Republic; Krakow, Poland; and Budapest, Hungary.

The students, parents, teachers, and chaperones will be traveling from place-to-place, taking guided tours and exploring the beautiful and sometimes haunting aspects of Europe’s history. They will be staying in hotels and enjoying European breakfast and dinner daily. This trip is an amazing learning experience and helps kids get an idea of the culture in these European countries.

They will visit the Berlin Wall, Topography of Terror Museum, St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, Auschwitz and Birkenau, Wawel Cathedral, St. Mary’s Church, Matthias Church, and the Budapest Baths. Many of these places are beautiful representations of the art, religions, architecture, and history of Europe.

However, some of these places give you a look into the dark history of Europe. Auschwitz and Birkenau were two famous concentration camps that existed during the holocaust. This tour will touch on the great pain that was brought to Europe during this time. Though this may not be a good memory of Europe, it is still a part of them and visiting this place will be an extraordinary learning experience for the students.

This trip is a rare opportunity and all the kids who are able to go are very lucky! Taking a trip touring around Europe will not only expand their knowledge but also will teach them a lot about life and the importance of travel, knowledge, history and culture.
