Starting Quarterback Liam Byrne

Woodstock High School quarterback Liam Byrne doubles as both an impressive athlete and as a tremendous student. This year, he led his team through a great season. While doing this, however, he also was working hard off the field.

Liam takes very rigorous courses, such as AP Physics C and AP Calculus BC. Liam also is not only a key role on the football team, but also on the basketball and the baseball team.

This 16-year-old excels not only in athletics, but also academically, and simply as a person. I interviewed Liam to get a little bit more insight into his life and his role on the football field as our starting quarterback.

Where do you live?

I reside in “The 6”, commonly known as Bridge Mill.

Do you have any siblings?

I do, I have three little sisters.

You play football for the Woodstock football team. Please briefly explain your season to me.

I am a quarterback. I have the ball every offensive play, and I am in charge of making plays happen.

Who has been your biggest influence on the football field?

My biggest influence has been my Coach O’Brien.

Who has been your biggest influence off the football field?

Off the field, I would have to say that my mother has been my biggest influence and supporter.

What has been one of your biggest accomplishments this year on the football field?

One of my biggest accomplishments this year was beating Cherokee High School.

When did you begin playing football? How old?

I began my football career at 5 years of age.

What is one thing that you have learned from your time playing football?

It has taught me how to really stay calm under pressure.

Where is your dream school to play at if you were to play in college?

My dream school to play at is Notre Dame.

How has football affected your life?

I have made tons of friends, and it has made me work hard in the weight room. Football is life.

Do you plan to play in college? If so, where?

Yes I do, however I am not sure where yet.

What advice do you have for any upcoming freshman hoping to be a successful High School football team?

Get into the weight room and put in work. Be all in.

How do you get over a hard loss?

Wendy’s always helps me through those tough nights.

How do you celebrate big wins?

WaHo is always my celebration go-to.

What do you hope to achieve next year as a senior?

Next year, I hope to help bring my team to a state championship.

Is football the best sport in the world? If so, why?

It is the best sport. It is the most entertaining not only to watch, but also to play. It requires the most strength and skill. It is the best team sport as well, because everybody needs to be involved.
