Lady Wolverines Looking Forward to an Amazing Season

Lead Story: The Lady Wolverines are looking forward to a great season following their 27-2 record in 2014-15. Everyone is excited to see what the girls will accomplish this year on the court. … The girls are led by Coach Julie Crowe, who has been coaching the Lady Wolverines for 12 seasons. Coach Mallory Ranfos, assistant coach, is entering her ninth year with the Lady Wolverines. Coach Angela Lack is the JV coach and a varsity assistant coach; this is her fourth year with the Lady Wolverines.

In Case You Missed It: Last year the varsity girls had a final 27-2 record for the season and were the 2014 regular season Region Champs. … So far this season, the team is off to a 3-2 start. The Lady Wolverines opened the season with consecutive losses to state powers Norcross (74-54) and Parkview (54-46) but have since rebounded with three straight victories over Wheeler (47-28), Roswell (47-36) and Walton (54-15).

Wolverine(s) of the Month: Last season, senior Kennedy Montgomery was named to the All-County First Team, while fellow seniors Ashton and Chandler Sutton were named to the Second Team and Honorable Mention, respectively. … As of press time, Montgomery is the team’s leading scorer (13 PPG) with a season-high of 23 points against Parkview. Her 23 points accounted for half of the team’s total points in the game.

Quotable: “Our goals are to stay healthy, win our Christmas tournament in Daytona, and win our 3rd Region Championship and a State Championship,” Coach Crowe on her goals for this season. When asked what she expected from her seniors Coach Crowe said, “Having four seniors we expect great leadership from every aspect. They all have different roles and are very committed to making this year one to remember.”

Off the Court: All of the girls on JV and varsity hosted and ran in the 5K Turkey Day Run on Thanksgiving in Woodstock. The event was a fundraiser for the girls’ basketball teams and more than 300 people came to the event. Also, the team volunteers at Must Ministries during the month of December.

By the Numbers: The Lady Wolverines are coming off their fifth state playoffs berth, second Sweet 16 appearance and a perfect 25-0 regular season.
