A Rockin’ Senior Project

Staff Writer: Claudia Miklosik

Most days around Woodstock High School, you can catch him decked out in blue jeans, cowboy boots and a band tee shirt. He is Woodstock’s own Kyle Confer and he does not just wear the southern rock style – he lives it. “I started playing guitar about eight years ago on my dad’s 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar. He was never very good,” laughs Confer.

Today, Kyle is influenced mostly by bands like Lynryd Skynyrd. His current band, named Highway 92, covers numerous southern rock classics, including ones like “Simple Man” and “Friends in Low Places”. Whether or not those songs ring a bell, the perfect opportunity to hear Confer’s musical talent live is just around the corner.

On Monday, Dec. 7, from 6-10 pm, the band will be playing at Semper Fi Bar and Grill as part of Kyle’s senior project. After ditching his original idea of building a guitar, Confer chose to host a benefit concert instead. “I felt like it was more worthwhile to do something for an outside cause,” he says. Rock and roll can have heart, too!

Semper Fi Bar and Grill is located, coincidentally, off Highway 92, where Main Street turns to Canton Road at 9770 Main Street. The restaurant is the talk of the town for its traditional American meals. Better yet: Semper Fi will donate 15% of each bill to the Corporal Skip Wells Foundation. Attendees have the chance to win gift cards through a raffle system. There is no better way to combine great food, good times and a worthy cause than Kyle’s event.

It would be greatly appreciated if the Wolverine Nation came out to enjoy a meal, cheer on, and groove with the local band! Kyle has put a lot of heart and soul into planning this upcoming event, and it is sure not to disappoint. Print the flier below not only to remind you to come out on Dec. 7, but also to bring so 15% of your bill is donated to the Skip Wells Foundation.
