The holidays are a very special time of year, all about showing love to the people you care about and giving back to the people around you. Woodstock High School’s very own Elves Club is giving back to the local kids this holiday season. “We’re all about giving back,” says Maleri. The students of Elves Club have been working nonstop since the beginning of August to collect money through fundraisers so they can purchase gifts for children in our area that cannot afford it. They’ve had several fundraisers leading up to December. Such as, Tacos for Toys and Pennies for Presents. Pennies for Presents is where the club gets most of their money for the toys, by going around school and collecting pennies from students and teachers. Tacos for Toys was mostly donations this year. All of the money collected from the fundraisers is directly used to purchase the gifts for the kids they’ve chosen. Kaitlyn, a 9th grade member of the club says, “Our focus is on making the children happy.” The club members carefully choose a kid from the community and they personally go out and select and buy the gifts for them. Then a gathering is held at the Woodstock High School library where the Elves Club and the kids they’ve worked hard for, meet for a few hours and deliver the gifts to the kids, eating with them, spending time with them, and spreading love and joy. Exactly what the holiday season is all about.
