BTS Taking on Billboard Music Awards

BTS, also referred to as Bangtan Boys, is a Korean Pop group of seven boys, who have ages ranging from 19 to 24.  Their fandom, also known as ARMY, consists of over 4 million people worldwide. They have been continuously performing and working hard for their fans since their debut in 2013. They are currently on tour for their recent album, Wings, which started in February and will end in July. In addition to being on tour, they have just recently made Korean Pop history.

The Billboard Music Awards, that will be streamed live on May 21, made an award called the “Top Social Artist Award”. The nominees consist of Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, and BTS. After days of voting, the two top votes were Justin Bieber with 1.6 million and BTS with 10.1 million! If you think that that’s crazy then wait until you hear their recent votes. Just one week ago, Justin Bieber had 15.2 million votes and BTS had 149.8 million votes!

The Billboard Music Awards twitter tweeted, “BTS have BROKEN some of the BBMAs servers. You all go hard for the boys.” This is all because of the many fans who were tweeting constantly to vote and to get their boys to perform at the awards show. The fans were shocked that the BBMAs did not invite BTS right after seeing the fans’ reactions, but then they all went crazy when they tweeted, “Just got word of seven new confirmed attendees for the #BBMAs … “ After this, BTS’s official twitter posted an invitation from the BBMAs on May eighth. This will be BTS’s first time walking down the red carpet in the United States!

In addition to all of this, their song, Not Today, became ranked number one on the Billboard’s Twitter Top Tracks, taking the title away from One Direction’s Harry and Niall. Their song, Fire, reached fourth place also! Many of their songs, if not all, are written and produced by their own members, which is very different from most Korean Pop idols. Their rapper line, Suga, J-Hope, and Rap Monster, are the main writers and producers of the songs,

These seven boys, Jin, Suga, V, Jungkook, Jimin, J-Hope, and Rap Monster, have all performed in sold out concerts around the world. They just came to America in April, but had to quickly leave in order to make their next concert in Thailand. While we were all able to spend Mother’s Day with our mothers, they spent it in Hong Kong performing their second day there.

The members of the band include four singers and three rappers. The singers are Jeon Jungkook, Kim Taehyung (aka V), Kim Seokjin (aka Jin), and Park Jimin. Jin is the oldest member of the group, and Jungkook is the youngest member of the group. These two members have a whole five year age gap. The rapper line is Min Yoongi (aka Suga), Jung Hoseok (aka J-Hope), and Kim Namjoon (aka Rap Monster). Suga is the oldest of the rap group, making him the lead rapper, while Rap Monster is the leader of the whole band, BTS.

The popularity of these seven idols in Korea is massive, and has now been brought over to America. Their catchy beats and amazing dancing skills have captured the hearts of many in America and Worldwide. Even though they clearly don’t need it, let us wish them luck for their award nomination and performance!
