Staff Writer: Kate O’Brien

Lead Story: After placing 8th in the state last November, the Woodstock Competition Cheerleading team is back again this season ready to work. The team is getting ready for the upcoming season, and practicing to make their routine as perfect as possible for competition time. Although the team is struggling with shortness in numbers, they are coming together to put in great work to be the best they can be. They are preparing and getting their routine ready for their first competition of the season on Sept. 16 at Etowah High school. They have high hopes going into this new season, and cannot wait to get back onto the mat!

Wolverine of the Month: Sam Roe- the team’s only senior is the Wolverine of the Month! She has faced a number of injuries throughout her four years on the Woodstock Competition Cheer team, yet she still persists and leads her team on so well! She is a great leader, a great motivator, and an overall great cheerleader and person! She is looked up to by the rest of her team, not only because she is the only senior, but also because of her great leadership qualities, and her dedication to the team!

Quotable: “We are so excited for the upcoming season! We cannot wait to have another chance to work hard & make it to state again, this year. We have amazing potential as a team, with amazing coaches behind us and we are working hard to put a great routine onto the floor. Even though our numbers are short, we’re doing our best and putting in lots of practice time to perfect our routine and the team to be ready for the upcoming season; quality over quantity!” -Alyssa Lewis (Junior)

By the numbers: Last season, the team advanced to Day 2 of state in Columbus, GA, and went on to place 8th in the state.

They also have competitions Sept. 23 at Woodland High school, Oct. 7 at Hillgrove High school, Oct. 14 at Allatoona High school, Oct. 21 at the University of West Georgia and Oct. 28 at Woodstock High School
