Varsity Volleyball Scratches and Claws Through August

Staff Writer: Samuel Snyder

Lead Story: The Woodstock Wolverines Volleyball squad led by coach Anita Dodd started off the season with a competitive performance by winning their first 4 games and having an overall record of 8-9. May not seem like much, but coach Dodd believes her team has had a solid year so far. They have fought in many close games, and matches, and coaches participate in activates off the court, and in the classroom. Also, they have been in multiple nail-biters that sided either Woodstock or the opposing team. Though it sounds like a very average season so far there have been many fun things going on.

In case you missed it: Woodstock had a very tough schedule in August including teams such as Lambert, Roswell, and Walton. Also, August 15 was senior night for your Wolverines, which ended up with a competitive match against Lambert splitting with one loss and one win. Seniors Emilee Harris, Kelly Shareef, and Katie Beckham showed out on the night that really mattered to them.

Wolverine of the Month: According to coach Dodd, the player that stood out from the rest was the senior outside hitter Emilee Harris.

Quotable: According to coach Dodd, her favorite quote from August was when Sequoyah’s head coach John Edwards said, “We out Woodstocked Woodstock.” Another interesting quote is from coach Dodd saying, “You don’t get better playing easier teams.”

Off the Court: Many things go on off the court for the Wolverines when it comes to the Varsity team. Players play club ball or travel ball which takes place in the Spring. Seniors are visiting colleges when it comes closer to the end of the season, and many are looking for a place to sign. Multiple players attend in the school’s academic clubs including the National Honor Society and the Beta club.

By the Numbers: According to coach Dodd though the girls are working very hard there have not been any interesting statistic to be mentioned.
