The Deadliest Shooting Massacre In U.S History.

Staff Writer: Foroutan Gorgi

It was an average Sunday night in the beautiful city of Las Vegas. There was a Jason Aldean concert that packed the house at the Las Vegas Blvd. Stage. At about 10:08, the audience heard heavy gun shots. They weren’t just normal gun shots, it was coming from a machine gun. “The gunshots lasted for 10 to 15 minutes. It didn’t stop,” said witness Rachel de Kerf. Matthew Sanchez was listening to it on live radio, he says, “it was easily one of the hardest things I had to listen to, I was at a loss of words.” The shots were coming from a hotel called Mandalay Bay on its 32nd floor. At least 58 people were killed and more than 500 were hurt. The shooter, a 64-year-old man named Stephen Paddock, shot himself right before the cops got him.

The shooter had a rather normal life, there was nothing wrong with him. Stephen Paddock lived in Mesquite with his girlfriend, 62-year-old Marilou Danley. Eric Paddock, Stephen’s brother, says, “He was just a guy, an army of one, with no known children despite a string of relationships. Someone you might see nursing a drink alone at a bar. Someone who went on cruises and played $100-a-hand video poker. Someone who sent boxes of cookies to his mother.” He described him as a very average person. He also added on, “There’s absolutely no way I could conceive that my brother would shoot a bunch of people that he didn’t know.” Eric goes on and on about saying how he was completely shocked and at a loss of words.

Around 58 people were killed, as well as over 500 being injured. This was the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S ever. The shooter also had firearms in his hotel suite. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that that “at least” 17 firearms were found in the room. The shooter was shooting at 9 rounds a second, that can be 9 people killed/ injured in a second…Wow… Officers reached the 32nd floor at 10:17 p.m., according to Lombardo’s timeline. By the time a SWAT team used an explosive charge to enter the room at 11:20 P.M. Paddock was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Nobody knows why this happened or the purpose for it, but we do know that every single concert or live event around the world will be insured with heavy protection and loads of cops. The fact that something so horrifying happened at such an unexpected place is so shocking. Preston Stubblefield says, ” I don’t understand why people do this kind of stuff… like what goes through their heads? Parents around the world will now have a second thought of letting their children go to events like this.
