The Woodstock Competition Cheerleaders Prepare for State

Subject Writer: Kate O’Brien

Lead Story: So far, this season, the Woodstock Varsity Competition Cheer team have been doing great. With a few wins under their belt, they are now preparing to take the floor in Columbus for State later this month. Although the team has worked past a few different injuries and obstacles this season, they are working harder than ever to put a great routine on the mat in Columbus. As a big contender in the AAAAAAA division, the team is working very hard to perfect and work out any last-minute kinks in the routine. With last year’s 8th place finish at state in mind, the team is excited to go out and try again at a win. They are also very excited to show off their routine that they have dedicated to Maddi at the biggest competition Highschool Competition Cheerleading has to offer.

In Case You Missed It: This past weekend, the team performed their routine at Woodstock’s own Fall Classic Competition. The entire crowd went wild as the team showed off their routine, ending with a perfect hit. Even though they were not scored (as it was a home competition), it was still a great performance.

Wolverine of the Month: This month’s Wolverine of the Month is sophomore Haley Roe! Although she is only a sophomore, she shows great leadership and maturity on the team. As a very strong back spot, and incredible motivator, she is a key piece of this team. She takes on the role of a motivator very seriously and is always encouraging her teammates to do their very best. Haley is always a person anyone can turn to for pointers or kind words of advice and encouragement, and that is why she is this month’s Wolverine of the Month!

Quotable: “I love being on comp, and I love all of my teammates so much. I am so glad that I was able to join this team. We have done so amazing so far this season, and I can’t wait to see how we do at state!” -Lilli Moore (Junior)

By the numbers: At their first competition at Hillgrove Highschool, Woodstock took first in their division, and they also took first at South Forsyth Highschool. The team placed second at Creekview Highschool’s Competition earlier this month.

Looking Ahead: This Saturday, November 4th the team will head to The University of West Georgia for regions. The following weekend, they will head down to Columbus, Georgia from Thursday, November 10th for State sectionals, until the 12th for State finals!
