All-stars in Los Angeles

Allstar weekend has many contests and games that keep the fans intrigued and allow the players to enjoy their time participating in friendly games rather than very competitive basketball game. Some of the contests include the Dunk Contest, where the four participants see who can perform the flashiest dunks. There is also the Three Pointer Contest, where players see who can make the most threes in a certain amount of time. There is also a celebrity game where famous people who don’t typically play basketball play a game against each other. But, the main event of Allstar Weekend is the Allstar Game, where the best players in the league play a friendly game against each other.

This year, the Dunk Contest was the first event in Allstar Weekend. The participants in the dunk contest were Utah Jazz shooting guard Donavan Mitchell, Indiana Pacers shooting guard Victor Olapido, Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr., and Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Larry Nance Jr. The format for the dunk contest is that every participant gets two dunks in the first round, and three attempts to complete each. The players with the two highest scores move on to the final round, where again they get two dunks and three attempts for each. Whichever player scores higher is the winner of the Dunk Contest. This year, Donovan Mitchell and Larry Nance Jr made it to the final round, and Mitchell bested Nance in the final round.

The next event was the Three Point Contest, where Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle

Lowry, Phoenix Suns shooting guard Devin Booker, Miami Heat small forward Dwayne Ellington, Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal, Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Paul George, Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson, and Los Angeles Clippers power forward Tobias Harris will all be challenging Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon for his Three Point Contest title. In the contest, the participants get one minute to make as many three-point shots as they can, and there are three rounds to determine the winner. In the end, Klay Thompson and Devin Booker were left, but Booker was able to defeat Thompson with a record setting round.

The event after the Three Point Contest is the most uncompetitive, but it is always fun to watch your favorite celebrities play in the Celebrity Game. The teams were split into team Lakers and team Clippers, because the game was in Los Angeles. The Lakers team included Nick Cannon, Kris Wu, and Nate Robinson. They were coached by Rachel Nichols, Tracy McGrady, and Michael B. Jordan. The Clippers team included Jamie Foxx, Bubba Watson, and Jason Williams. In the end, team Clippers was victorious, and were led by Quavo, a member of the rap group Migos, who also won MVP of the game.

The Final event in Allstar weekend is the Allstar game. This year’s format was different from past years, because instead of being divided up into east and west, the teams were

given captains and the captains got to draft their team. The captains of the teams were voted on, and Lebron James and Stephen Curry won the vote. Lebron James chose Demarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving as his starters, and Curry chose Giannis Antetokounmpo, Demar DeRozan, Joel Embiid and James Harden as his starters. The game was a close and high scoring game, maybe because the defense is never a big factor in the Allstar Game, but in the end team Lebron defeat team curry with a score of 148-145.

Allstar Weekend is a great part of NBA culture and will continue to bring fun to members of the NBA as well as people across the globe.
