Handmade dress for The Addams family.

addams  Staff Writer: Jordan Van Dyke

While trying to decide what or who to write about for this month, a friend in my class told me about her friend, Rachel Nevitt. Rachel made the dress for Morticia Addams for the drama club’s showing of The Addams Family. Sounds like an amazing accomplishment. I wanted to talk to Rachel to get her side of how she came up with this creative idea, along with how her senior year is coming to an end.

What is your senior project?

My senior project was designing a dress which is currently being used in the Addams family musical

What’s the most difficult part of your senior project?

The most difficult part was finding time to meet with my facilitator and the actress who wears the dress

What steps have you taken to complete your senior project?

Lots of all-nighters learning how to measure and sewing

Is this what you want to do as a career?

No not really anymore.

Who is your project facilitator? and how did you find them?

Cindy Lou Who she’s a draper at the alliance theatre and I met her through Mr. Morris

What about your senior project made you not want to do that as your career?

I’m a perfectionist and when things went wrong, or people couldn’t meet it drove me crazy but a lot of what costumers do is based around dealing with imperfections and going around others schedules

Graduation is approaching quickly, what has been your favorite part of high school?

The football games. I love the atmosphere of it all.

What will you miss the most?

Seeing the people who’ve made showing up every day worth it.

What is your favorite memory of high school?

Watching the closing number of Addams Family backstage for the last time. It was such a bittersweet moment.

What is your least favorite memory?

Failing my first French test. (I took it pretty hard)

What are your college plans?

I’m not quite sure yet. I’m stuck between Jacksonville state in Alabama or KSU.

Do you have any tips/advice for the upcoming seniors?

Take it one day at a time. It seems like it’s going to last forever but, as cheesy as it sounds, it goes by so fast. Do everything earlier than you think you need to, and senior project isn’t bad if you keep with the schedule.
