The NBA’s Conference Finals

Staff Writer: Preston Subblefield

The Cleveland Cavaliers swept the number one seed the in the east the Toronto Raptors to put themselves in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. The Celtics arguably have their best two players out for the Eastern Conference Finals. Kyrie Irving who has been out half of the season to knee surgery. Gordon Heyward has been out since the first game of the season from a nasty knee injury. Gordon has been back with the team and practicing but won`t be back on the court until next year. The Cavaliers have the best player in the world, LeBron James. LeBron is the man for Cleveland he leads the team in points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, about every statistic James leads his team for it.

The Championship is about to start

The Dubs starting five

The Western Conference Final champion will most likely come out on top this year in the National Basketball Association. The Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have the best team on paper. With four all-stars in their starting lineup. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green. Each player can score thirty points any given night. Then their last starter, Andre Iguodala. Andre would be a starter on about every team in the NBA. The Warriors plus minus with this line up is remarkable. Houston has James Harden, Chris Paul, and the rest of their shooters. The Rockets shot the most three`s in an NBA season, they also made the most three`s that have ever been made in an NBA season. This matchup has been highly anticipated.

The Celtics’ depth has been among its biggest strengths all season, but it was Boston’s starting five that led the way in a blowout win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. The Celtics starters outscored their Cavs counterparts 88-46 as Boston cruised to a 108-103-win Sunday afternoon at TD Garden. Three Celtics starters poured in 20 or more points, led by Jaylen Brown’s 23. Marcus Morris (21) and Al Horford (20) also reached the 20-Point mark. The other Celtics starter in double figures was rookie Jayson Tatum with 16 points. Which ends Tatum`s streak of 20 plus points in eight straight games. “LeBron need more help than himself.” -Stephen A. Smith

will LeBron make it back to the ship

The Cleveland Cavaliers need more than just LeBron James’ excellence to win Game 3 of their conference finals matchup with the Boston Celtics on Saturday. Even his 42-point triple-double in Game 2 wasn’t enough to beat Boston, and now Cleveland finds itself trailing, 2-0. The Celtics are the breakout team everyone expected in the regular season, but not like this. Without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, they’re beating The King behind one All-Star and a fleet of over-performing youths. Jaylen Brown was incredible in the team’s last outing, scoring 23 points on 18 shots, Terry Rozier had 18 points, Jayson Tatum had 11, and Horford chipped in 15 with 10 rebounds. It’s been a complete effort.

first week of June…. save the date

The Cleveland Cavaliers grabbed control of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals early, building a 19-point lead in the first quarter and cruised to a blowout win over the Boston Celtics on Saturday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The Cavs cut the Celtics’ series lead to 2-1, with a pivotal Game 4 scheduled on Monday night in Cleveland. LeBron James had 27 points on just 12 shots and dished out 12 assists in the win, and the Cavaliers had five others score in double figures. Kyle Korver was perfect for Cleveland, making all five field goals, including four three-pointers for 14 points in his 20 minutes. Boston shot just 39% in the loss. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 18 points.

Curry scored 35 points with five 3-pointers, shooting over James Harden and driving past him as the Golden State Warriors made a second-half statement to beat the Rockets 126-85 on Sunday night for a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals. “There’s obviously that anticipation when you come in transition and you find an open look and there’s a collective hush in the crowd, especially in this building,” Curry said. “It’s a cool moment. I was searching for it in the first half. I had plenty of opportunities, I just couldn’t knock it down. Third quarter it opened. I’ve been doing it for a while. I won’t let two tough games shooting keep me frustrated. “The 41-point victory was the largest in franchise history during the postseason, topping a 39-point win 85-46  by the Philadelphia Warriors against the St. Louis Bombers on April 6, 1948. Kevin Durant added 25 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Draymond Green grabbed 17 rebounds to go with 10 points and six assists. The Warriors won an NBA-record 16th consecutive home postseason game, surpassing the Chicago Bulls’ mark of 15 in a row from April 27, 1990-May 21, 1991.

The defending champions got defensive and maybe a little mad after a 127-105 Game 2 defeat Wednesday night at Houston, determined to make stops to ignite the transition game and open 3-point shooters. Especially Curry, who snapped out of his slump with four in the second half. “I’ve seen those explosions happen everywhere, not just here,” Green said. “His three ball is like some people’s dunk. You go to certain arenas and a guy gets a dunk it’s just absurd. That’s how his three ball is. … Don’t mean to disappoint, but I’ve seen crazier from him. “Harden had 20 points and nine assists, while Chris Paul added 13 points and 10 rebounds as they combined to shoot just 12 for 32. Game 4 is Tuesday night at Oracle Arena.
