Welcome back to The Loaf!! We’re back at it again for Week 6 of the College Football season. It’s October, baby. The air is (supposed to be) getting chillier, conference play is heating up, and life is how it should be. We got back on the right track last week with a 3-1-1 week. That’s what you love to see, man. We’re now sitting at 20-14-1 for the season.
I’ve got seven more picks for y’all this week:
First up we’ve got #21 Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech (OVER 63). As is typically the case in Big 12 games, when you take two teams with bad defenses and decent (in Texas Tech’s case) or really good (Oklahoma State) offense, points will be had. In bunches. Chuba Hubbard and the Oklahoma State offense have been racking up yards like nobody’s business, lighting up the scoreboard every single weekend. And we’ve seen how bad Tech’s defense has been this season. The Pokes will score at least 45. I feel like that’s a given. And assuming it is, Texas Tech will hit paydirt at least three times. It’s a Big 12 game. They have to! Oklahoma State 49, Texas Tech 24

In a game between two of the worst teams in College Football, I’m taking UConn (+11) vs South Florida. This game is disgusting. I am appalled that this is a thing that is taking place. However, it is. So we must go with our instinct, which is this: UConn is so bad. But South Florida is incredibly bad too. To me, both of these teams are equally horrible. South Florida has lost 9 of its last 10 games, with the only win coming against FCS South Carolina State. They lost to Georgia Tech in 2019 for pete’s sake! Charlie Strong and the Bulls are at a point where literally everything is going wrong for them. Now they head up to Connecticut, where a feisty Husky team will look to take them down. I would sprinkle UConn on the money line too if you’re feelin’ it this weekend. UConn 34, South Florida 27

Fun fact: This is UConn’s last season as a member of the American Conference. Photo Credit: The UConn Blog
It’s the game of the week. College Gameday will be there. Brad Nessler will be calling the game. It’s #7 Auburn @ #10 Florida, and I like the (UNDER 48.5). This was probably the most obvious one to me of this week’s slate. First of all, unless Oklahoma is involved, big games typically lean under. That’s the first thing. But more importantly, both of these teams are incredibly good on defense (Auburn especially), and both are quite pedestrian on offense. In terms of Auburn, I can confidently say that the Tigers have the best defense in the nation right now. It’s suffocating. They’ve given up 17.2 points a game this season. Florida isn’t scoring much against these guys. On the other side of the ball, Bo Nix and Co. have been alright this season. Prior to last week’s contest against Mississippi State, it hadn’t been great at all, and last week is when it finally looked awesome (and Auburn looked like a Playoff contender), but that was Mississippi State. Florida isn’t that. It’s better on defense. In a big game between two of the best defenses in the nation, give me the under. Auburn 24, Florida 16

Obviously this is Bo Nix in this picture but my main reason for including it was the angry wave Tulane helmet. *chef kiss* Photo Credit: AL.com
Notre Dame has become a staple of The Loaf in 2019, and they’re back again this week. This time I’m picking against the Irish. Give me Bowling Green (+45.5) @ #9 Notre Dame. If I know Notre Dame, and I think I do, they are going to come into this game sort of sleepy. Notre Dame played that game in Athens about as well as it could’ve, and it still lost. That being said, it ended up gaining respect because everyone thought the Irish would lose that game by 3-4 touchdowns. Then they came back home last week and went up against another quality opponent in Virginia, and handled them in the second half. And now here come the Falcons from Bowling Green. How do you get up for this game if you’re Notre Dame? If you’re going to give me 45 points against an unmotivated Notre Dame team, I’ll take them every single time. Notre Dame 49, Bowling Green 17

Lots of total plays this week. I’ve got another with Air Force @ Navy (UNDER 45). Loyal readers of The Loaf will know this already: service academy games, or any game between two teams running the triple option, is a principle under every single time. Slow paced offenses both ways, clock running and running and running, rivalry game (in the case of service academies), all that. It’s principle. Navy 21, Air Force 17

Y’all know what time it is now. It’s my weekly fade Georgia Tech and take the under combo. This week, it’s North Carolina (-9.5) @ Georgia Tech and the (UNDER 49.5). Last week, Georgia Tech lost by three touchdowns to a team who is worse than everyone else left on its schedule (with the exception of maybe Virginia Tech), and the offense scored NOT A SINGLE TIME! Every time I think they can’t get worse, they do. This week, the opponent is North Carolina. Better than I expected in year 1 under Mack Brown, Carolina has a real one at QB in Sam Howell, and their defense is sure to make Tech look silly on offense, assuming they don’t do it to themselves. So yeah, here we are again. Georgia Tech is going to get blown out again, but their defense should still play somewhat well, as it did against Temple last week. Carolina won’t be scoring 6 or 7 touchdowns, and I don’t know if Georgia Tech scores any. Easy under. North Carolina 31, Georgia Tech 10

I’m not excited for Sam Howell (7) and the Heels to abuse my guys this weekend. It won’t be fun. Photo Credit: New York Post
That’s what I’ve got for Week 6’s edition of The Loaf! Enjoy your college football Saturday!!
