Who Will Win Superbowl LIV?

Staff Writer: Kevin Mithcell

Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers. With many saying, “The Chiefs are going to win easy,” I predict that the 49ers will be victorious.

Going head-to-head on the biggest stage of the season and many of the players careers. The offensive match-up between Jimmy G and Patrick Mahomes is going to be a sight to see. The receivers are going to be on their A+ game, the defense for both won’t be giving up many yards on the run or the pass, but both of these teams are definitely going to figure out a way to break through and have a huge game.

Starting with the 49ers, they are the underdogs coming in. All predictions point towards Kansas City winning. I’m looking for the underdog to come out of nowhere and shock every one of the people who thinks the 49ers don’t deserve to have their shot to show what they are on the big stage.

Jimmy G was a beast throughout this season. He had over 3,000 yards and his completion percetange was 69.1. He also had 27 touchdowns and lead them to a record of 13-3 and the No. 1 seed in the NFC. He had a big part, but there were other key players on offense who were involved with their wins.

Players like George Kittle (TE), Emmanuel Sanders (WR), Tevin Coleman (RB), and Raheem Mostert (RB). (Coleman may not play in the Super Bowl due to a dislocated shoulder injury in the playoffs. Running over 500 yards this season, I would say he had a big influence on this team’s record.)

George Kittle flies under the radar and not many talk about him. “He leads the 49ers with Brutality and Bliss,” says the Washington Post. Coming in with 1053 receiving yards, he will be someone the Chiefs need to stop. He is a go-to target and easy to hit because he is never truly covered. They need to play up on him and completely stop his run after catch yards because if the Chiefs don’t they will be watching the 49ers waltz right up to the end zone the whole game.

Emmanuel Sanders is someone who many people doubt his ability as a WR. Coming into the Superbowl with 869 yards, he could be a big problem for the chiefs. The Chiefs really are going to have to lock up on these players and after the last game this next player had they are going to have to make sure to lock down the run game for the 49ers.

Raheem Mostert. I know, I know, I have been saying that all of these players fly under the radar but, Raheem flies under the radar. Running against Green Bay everything went his way. He was basically walking into the endzone without trouble at all. In the regular season, he had 772 yards and 8 touchdowns and in postseason, he has 278 yards and 4 touchdowns. If Tevin Coleman isn’t cleared to play in the Super Bowl, Raheem Mostert will be a very reliable filler for the position.

The players have been playing amazing, but it’s not just about them. Really, it all comes down to the coaching staff, and they have a great coaching staff. With Kyle Shanahan, who also led the Falcon’ offense to their breakout Super Bowl year, leading the 49ers it makes sense that they would go far in the season. With him already being through the Super Bowl and learning from the mistakes he made the first time and changing it to fit this new team’s schemes and objectives, he could win himself his first title as a head coach.

Now, onto the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes, after being down 24-0 to the Texans, led the team on a 51-7 run. The Chiefs are going to be a force to go up against. Patrick Mahomes has over 4,000 passing yards and 26 touchdowns. Like Jimmy G, Mahomes also has weapons in his back pocket like Tyreek Hill (WR), Travis Kelce (TE), and Damien Williams (RB).

Starting with the biggest target for Mahomes, Tyreek Hill. Tyreek has 860 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, and the run after catch is going to hurt the 49ers if they don’t play him tight and restrict how many catches he gets. If he gets too many yards, it’s going to be touchdown after touchdown for him.

The 49ers also need to shut down the run because Williams can get easy yards on the defense. Damian is coming into this game with 498 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Travis Kelce is also a beast at the tight end position. He is questionable, but if he plays, he will have a big game. He is a go-to target if nobody is open because he passes through the defense to weak spots and once he catches it it’s like a wide-open field for him. With 1229 yards and 5 touchdowns, if the defense doesn’t play him strong, he will have at least four more touchdowns in this game.

Andy Reid is certainly in the “best coach to never win a Super Bowl” conversation. He went to one Super Bowl as the head coach of the Eagles (a loss to the Patriots) and has gotten closer and closer to getting back in the past few years.

“Mahomes, now in his second full season as the Super Bowl-Bound Cheifs’ starter, has only lost eight total games and not one by more than a single score,” Adam Teicher.
