How many of us love the feeling of sitting down with a good book and reading for as long as you can? I know I do!

“What I love most about reading is when a novel has great characters; throughout the novel as I get to know them, it feels like I’m making new friends,” says Lydia Lord, a sophomore at Woodstock High School.

During quarantine we all had a lot of free time and it gave me a chance to read some of the most popular teen fiction novels out now. According to Barns and Noble, the bestselling fiction books now include Midnight Sun by: Stephenie Meyer, One of Us is Lying by: Karen M. Mcmanus, and The Hunger Games by: Suanne Collins.

Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyers is a spin of the original Twilight series from a different perspective than before. This book was just released early August.

One of Us is Lying is a story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walks out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide. Pay close attention and you might solve this mystery. This mystery/thriller will have you guessing till the end.

The Hunger Games by Suanne Collins is a dystopia novel that follows the life of Katniss Everdeen and the day that each district is required to offer two tributes, a boy and a girl aged 12 to 18 years to participate in the games.

Another popular ten fiction book is Harry Potter which is the highest-selling fiction book in the entire world at over 500 million copies worldwide. This story follows a young wizard and his years through Hogwarts School of Magic. Harry Potter just celebrated its 22nd year of publication.

My personal favorite book series is called the Selection by Kiera Cass. This book takes place in a royal class system society where a group of lucky women get chosen to take part in a selection to compete for the prince’s heart. A romance mixed with action this is a great book that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

“I think that everyone should read The Selection. What I love most about reading is that it’s therapeutic because it lets you go into a different world and get away from the stresses of your own,” says Abby Hallman, another sophomore at WHS.

All these books can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or your local bookstore.

Once you find a good book you really enjoy it’s hard to put it down. Reading can be calming and take you to a different world away from the stress and anxieties of our own!
